More Breastfeeding and Family Visiting

I HUGE thank you to all you caring ladies out there who left me your comments on my previous post. I really enjoyed reading them all and was also happy (not to hear of your troubles), but to be confirmed that these specific breastfeeding problems are not just my own.

I feel as though if I had waited 3 more days to write that post, it wouldn't have sounded so negative. All of a sudden, my body got in check. As if over night my boobs got on board with what they are suppose to do (supply wise) and I am a MUCH happier mother because of it. I think because I had breastfed Jackson for 10 months, the freshed memories I hold from that whole experience were from the last few months - when I considered myself a "pro". When all I had to do was put Jax up to the breast and he did the rest. I think there is a reason those early memories of struggles and tears were no longer on the surface of my mind... so I could enter motherhood again with an open mind and not have preconceived notions about the difficulties of breastfeeding a newborn.

I appreciate all your support and thank you for reading through my complaints and questions. Since then, I haven't really needed to pump (at least today was the first day I didn't at all) for expression purposes. The initial latch on is still painful and even more so if I am extra full. But I know that will continue to subside. I want to be careful to not let the supply get low (since I haven't pumped). Jaelyn sleeps a lot during the day still and she usually feeds 4 hours apart during the day. In the evening starting around 7pm, she cluster feeds every 1.5 - 2 hours until midnight. During that time she sleeps in 20-30 min spurts and is awake most of the time. Come 12am or 1am, she has her last feeding of the night and sleeps until 5-6am - she will eat again then fall asleep until 9-10am which then starts her every 4 hour feedings for the day. I read in the handout from her 2 week appt, that she should be feeding about 10 mins EACH breast at each feeding - a total of 20 mins. She does NOT eat that long. She's a sleepy baby and usually falls back asleep after about 10 mins TOTAL. Most of the time I only get her to nurse on 1 side. I try to keep her awake, but she falls asleep while I try to burp her (which usually takes a while). But if I don't get a burp out of her, she spits up BADLY within 15 mins. She is an efficient eater though. In that 10 mins on just 1 breast, she normally softens it really well (can't say it's "emptied" though).

Should I be concerned that she doesn't nurse much longer than 10-15 mins? At her 2 week appt, she had surpassed her birth weight of 6lbs 9oz and weighed in at 7lbs 1oz. That tells me she's doing pretty good.

At only 2 weeks, is it ok that she only nurses at 1 breast during a feeding? In most cases, I am able to get her latched on the other breast after 10 mins. of nursing the 1st side. But can never get more than 3-5 mins of her sucking.

Here are some updated photos for your enjoyment :) Or mine

My Achievements!!

On thursday afternoon, after the horrible allergist visit - my mom came to take Jackson for the whole weekend. I was confident by then that he was not reacting to the vaccine. It was a sad goodbye for me because I didn't have time to prepare myself that morning... my son will be gone for 3 days!

I had a whole list of spring cleaning/projects that I wanted to get done. Working on tedious projects around the house is just so much more practical without Jackson being counterproductive to my mission. Here was my list:

Clean / dust the whole house from top to bottom
Clean out / organize my craft closet
Clean out / organize the front hall coat and shoe closet
Run numberous errands

Finish Jax's wall painting

Make my friend's little girl her easter gift

(still need to iron it)

Figure out some decor for the top of our cabinets in the kitchen

Everything on top of these cabinets I found around my house. It helped to declutter other areas and bring height to my vaulted ceilings. The lanterns were still packed away in the basement from our wedding. They were part of our table centerpieces. The only thing I purchased was the stockings in the large vase,
Hobby Lobby.

And in case you were curious...

I totally POPPED this week!
Can you believe that is a 15 week belly??

ps. ignore the vacuum cleaner :) it (instead of Jackson) has followed me around for the last 3 days

Hemmorage Update, Sledding and More

Update on Subchorionic Hemmorage:

I met with my OB today for my first prenatal visit and we went over the results from the ultrasound. She showed me on the sonagram that I have two hemmorages. Not what I was expecting to see. They both lie along either side of lower portion of the uterus... right near the cervix. One of them is 2.5 cm, the other 1cm. She said this size did not shock her at all.

The good news?

Neither of them are obstructing the placenta (at this time). So as far as she see, the placenta is fully attached.

The bad news?

Besides the fact that there are two... they lie right near the cervix. Having said that, my OB said there is a high probability that I will experience bleeding. The hemmorages have indeed stopped bleeding, and are now blood clots. My body could absorb them, but more likely - as they begin to break down, pieces of them will be expelled out by the shear force of gravity. She really stressed the fact that I shouldn't get scared if the blood is old and dark. It's the brightly colored blood that rises a concern.

This bleeding most likely occured during implantation. At which time, there may have been some movement in the placement of the embryo as it settled - and that caused the bleeding. My OB said that this is VERY common. She explained that the clinic's new ultrasound equipment is so advanced and stream lined, that these hemmorages are being caught so early in the pregnancies. She said that when she started practicing, she rarely saw this until further into the pregnancy. But now with the clear precision of the intravaginal ultrasounds, so much more is visible and detectable.
We scheduled another ultrasound on March 10th for my next prenatal visit as well as a follow up ultrasound. What we want to see, is the hemmorages smaller or the same size. If they get larger, that will be a problem. So please pray that situation will resolve itself and nothing further will occur to endanger the pregnancy.

In case you read my last post, and wanted to see how much "belly" that isn't really "baby" at 9 weeks - here it is! Just ignore the old white stretch marks from Jackson... it was his parting gift to me :)

--------------------------------------

I pulled Jax around the front yard yesterday in his adorable child's tobaggin. Unfortuantely, he didn't enjoy it. Remember the last sledding experience? He wasn't tickled then either. So instead, Jackson stood in one place in the snow (refusing to move) while he watched me build a snowman and periodically called out to the drive by traffic.

In these next two photos.... he was keeping a close, untrusting eye on the "apparently scary" snowman decoration on our front porch.

Am I a bad mother for not resisting the urge to put my 16 month old SON in Baby Legs again?

Maybe they were more appropriate here - at 9 months old...

Anyways.... here's a couple more of my silly rambunctious toddler!

Apples, Pumpkins, and Cider OH MY!

Two posts in one day... my aren't YOU lucky? :)
We spent Saturday afternoon at Schabo's Apple Orchard/Pumpkin patch. It was a great day to be outside. The overcasting was perfect for photos! Here a bunch of photos that need no captions. I was experimenting a bit with my depth of field settings for my photography class tomorrow night. It would be fun to touch these up with Photoshop, but we aren't allowed to - if we want to submit them for class :)

Of course Jackson is sporting his latest beanie :)

My absolute FAVORITE part of fall.
