Project #3 - Wooden Letters

I absolutely LOVE this project because I completed it in about 30 mins and it was super simple!

Supplies:

1. Wooden letters for your child's name. I went to Hobby Lobby today and got these letters. Originally $2.99 ea, marked 50% off down to $1.50 ea. (Sale good thru Sat.)

2. Scrap Book pages of your desired color theme. I stopped at JoAnn Fabrics for their FireFly Frenzy sale where they were featuring 5 pages for $1.00. So I walked out with 10 designer pages for $2.10 incl. tx. (Sale good thru Sat.)

3. Some good ol fashion Mod Podge Matte and a cheap sponge applicator.
(No charge, had on hand at home)

First step is to paint a thin layer of Mod Podge directly onto the front face of the letter. Do one at a time and work quickly because this adhesive does dry rapidly.

Then lay the wooden letter face down onto the back of your chosen scrap page. Press firmly and wiggle it a bit to make sure the fit is secure. Allow the letters to sit there and dry while you complete the rest of your child's name.

Using an exacto knife with a fresh - brand new blade, place the adhered page face down on a scrapbooking matte. Process to cut out around each letter to remove the access paper. Be careful on this step because it is easy to shave a little wood off of your letter since the knife is so sharp.

When you have completed that - apply another thin coat of Mod Podge (with a new sponge applicator if the first one is now hard and crusty) for the front of the letter to finalize the security of the paper. This glue always dries clear, but needs to be applied thinly. Too much can saturate the paper and cause it to ripple. Try to make the layer as thin as possible to avoid creating lines from your sponge. (Step not photoed)

Once they have dried - your child's name is fashionabley displayed with an affordable, designer look.

Those look great! MUCH easier than painting them like I have done. BTW, what is Lil'Miss name? Did I miss it in a post somewhere?

A cute idea!! I need to start getting stuff around for the nursery, esp if I'm gonna go with the new theme I like.

You did a great job on those letters!

I wonder if anyone else is trying to piece those letters together too.... :)

Those letters are so cute! As soon as we get moved, I'm going to try that for my kids' new rooms. Hope mine turn out as well as yours did.

I left you an award on my blog. Stop by and pick it up when you have a chance. http://www.howaretheharmons.blogspot.com
