A reason for concern?

I was told during my ultrasound that I have a Subchorionic Hemmorage. This is a gathering of blood between the membrane of the placenta and the uterus, most commonly formed by a blood clot.

"Subchorionic hemorrhage (subchorionic hematoma) is the most common sonographic abnormality in the presence of a live embryo." According to this article.

"The current statistics for pregnancy loss with a SCH is 1-3%. This low percentage is related to large clots. Most pregnancies progress with no further complications. Most clots resolve on their own by 20 weeks of pregnancy. The clot either bleeds itself out or the body absorbs it." According to this article

Although both of these statements are reassuring, I have been reading some forums online and there have been women out there whom HAVE miscarried with this disorder.

The main things my doctor said was:
Yes, I have seen this on a common basis
You may experience some bleeding, dark red brown is normal.
If the blood is bright red, I need to contact them immediately.
Schedule a follow up ultrasound at 10-12 weeks gestastion (scheduled March 9th)
Most of the times, the uterus will reabsorb this pocket of blood and there is no need to get worried at this point.

But naturally - I will still worry

How common IS this?

What if this grows bigger? What if it's still there in my 2nd trimester? The only "treatment" is bedrest. Any heavy lifting and vigorous activity will be eliminated. I read that if this persists well into the 2nd trimester, it could cause the placenta to detach... ultimately ending the pregnancy and initiating preterm labor.
Would you please pray that my case is one of the norm? Please pray that my body will absorb this gathering of blood and my child will be left unharmed.

I would also like to hear if you have had experience with this condition. Somthing encouraging from a friend would be appreciated.

I can definitely understand your worry, April. I haven't experienced this but I know people who have and they've went on to have healthy babies. So, I hope that this will resolve itself! Praying that it does!

April...I'm so behind on blog reading right now so sorry for not commenting on this post. Of all my pregnancies I've never experienced what you're going through. The one thing I have experienced though is just the regular nervousness and worrying that comes with pregnancy. It's not easy, but even now at almost 30 weeks, I just keep giving all my worries to the Lord. He is there and He is faithful to carry us through.

I'll be praying! :)

That's exactly what I had with our baby that we lost. How big is yours? Mine was 1cm...my friend's was 3cm and her baby was fine.

I know I already told you about my subchron hem but I thought I'd write here too since it seems not many people have had it or heard of it. I had one when I was pregnant with my daughter, who is now 16 months. I bled up until 14 weeks. The bleeding was anything from the 'spotting' to bright red blood. It was a stressful time and we had many u/s to make sure everything was ok. Luckily, it reabsorbed and I have a happy, healthy baby. It's more common then we think and chances are everything will be just fine. Lots of hugs and prayers to help you not to worry too.
